Ways to use these pages
Compare real leaves
Set one fallen leaf beside a maple or oak printout and look for its edge, stem and veins before coloring.
Show the wind
On the tree scene, shade leaves near the branches one color and the leaves flying away another.
Make a color ring
Use a simple repeating color order on the circular leaf patterns, or give every leaf its own shade.
Choose a leaf by its shape
Start with the oak leaf and acorns or the page of four different leaf veins if you want to look closely at shapes. The broad outlines leave room to shade from a green stem toward yellow, orange or red edges. Put a real leaf beside the printout and ask your child what looks the same: the pointed tips, rounded lobes or branching veins. The drawing does not have to match nature. A purple maple leaf can be just as useful for noticing where the veins meet.
Pick the right amount of detail
These are not all quick preschool sheets. The single oak branch and the large framed maple leaves have generous spaces. The star-patterned maple, oak-leaf circle and leafy tree ask for more patience because they contain many small repeated areas. Use the Easy, Medium and Detailed filters to choose by the actual drawing, then check its preview before printing. A child who likes finishing in one sitting may prefer the open acorn page; someone who enjoys patterns might stay with a mandala for much longer.
Make an autumn scene of your own
Several pictures place leaves near pumpkins, houses, rain or a gust of wind. On the windy tree page, color one side green and the blowing leaves in warmer shades to show the season changing. The rainy village invites gray clouds and brightly colored roofs. Another way to begin is to give each leaf in a circular design a different color, then repeat the same order around the ring. For more harvest subjects, see the pumpkin coloring pages or try the acorn collection.
Bring the pages to a table or classroom
After a short leaf hunt, lay the finds beside the four-vein study and let children choose which printed shape is closest. At a group table, offer one roomy page and one patterned page so each person can work at a comfortable pace. Finished drawings can become a row of autumn colors on a wall, with the real leaves taped nearby. The wider fall coloring collection has other seasonal scenes when everyone has finished comparing leaves.
Happy coloring!
Begin with a broad leaf or acorn if you want a quick printout. Save the circles, village and layered patterns for a longer coloring session.

Questions
Which fall leaves page is easiest for a younger child?
Try the oak leaf and acorns, oak branch, or four large leaf veins. Their open spaces are easier to finish than the rings and patterned scenes.
Are there maple and oak leaves in this set?
Yes. You can find large maple leaves, an oak branch with acorns, oak-leaf circles and several mixed leaf designs.
Can I print one leaf instead of the whole book?
Yes. Each card has its own printable PDF, so you can choose one open leaf or a more detailed scene.
Can the pictures be colored online?
Yes. Open any sheet with its Color online button to color that same drawing on screen.
