Ways to use these pages

1

Grow a paper garden

Color the tomato vine, then draw one more plant beside the watering can.

2

Give the book a cover

The child reading in the shade holds a blank book; invent a simple cover picture.

3

Compare day and night

Color the bright kite scene and the telescope night with two different sky palettes.

Start with a picnic or a garden harvest

The first July sheet sets a picnic basket beside watermelon, apples and drinks under broad month letters. A second picture has two children on a checked blanket with a tree and basket. Choose the basket page when you want one clear center; the blanket checks take more patience. In the garden scene, a child picks a tomato from a vine while carrying a full basket. Look for the watering can, fence and leaves before coloring the fruit. A child could draw the next vegetable they would grow in the open margin. For another warm-weather idea, see summer coloring pages.

Find shade, wind and water

One child reads a blank-cover book under a large leafy tree. The book cover can become a story of the child's own: add a title or a small drawing after coloring. Another child holds a kite string in an open field; its diamond shape and ribbon tail are easy to find against the clouds. A third new picture follows a little sailboat across a lake with reeds at the near shore. These three scenes let children choose between a quiet activity, a windy day and a calm water view. The kite has broad sky areas; the tree leaves give a longer coloring task.

Build a castle or run through the sprinkler

At the beach, one child pours sand onto a castle while another works at its base; a small sailboat sits farther down the shore. The big castle walls are a good starting point before the bucket, flags and water. The two backyard pages show different sprinklers: a hose-fed octopus toy in one, and a ground sprinkler with three children and a dog in the other. Try coloring the water last so it stands apart from grass and clothing. For more seaside scenes, visit the beach coloring pages.

Close the day with a campout or stars

A family sits inside an open tent on one page. Another brings four people to a campfire with marshmallow sticks, a lantern and small stars. The telescope sheet gives a different night activity: a child lies on a blanket looking upward, with a crescent moon and outlined stars above. None of the sky is printed black, so a child can make it a blue evening or invent a bright night. The campfire has the most little parts; the telescope and moon have wider spaces. Add a date or memory on the back and put the page with the months coloring pages.

Happy coloring!

Choose a July picture that recalls a real afternoon, then add the date and one remembered detail to the back.
