Ways to use these pages

1

Map a park ride

On a path sheet, draw one destination at the end of the curve and name what the rider might see.

2

Compare two scooters

Put a kick scooter and motor scooter side by side, then find the deck, seat, wheels and basket.

3

Color a helmet

Choose a bright helmet color for one riding picture and talk about getting ready for play.

Choose a ride or a rest

Helmeted Park Scooter Ride and Scooting Past Garden Flowers show a child riding a kick scooter on a path lined with trees or flowers. Two Kids on Kick Scooters has two children on separate kick scooters, while Shared Tandem Scooter puts them on one long scooter. The parked scooter picture shows a playground bench, backpack, slide and swings. A child can decide whether the ride has just ended or is about to begin, then color the scenery to tell that version of the story.

Notice the change in vehicle

Smiling Motor Scooter and Flower Basket Scooter show a motor scooter rather than the push along scooters in the first pictures. That makes a good spot the difference activity: compare the wheels, seat and handlebars. Younger children may enjoy the large friendly face of the cartoon motor scooter; older children can spend longer on its flower basket and garden. For the riding scenes, choose one bright helmet color and use it throughout the set so the child can follow the same imaginary rider from page to page.

Turn the path into a plan

Ask where a safe place to ride might be and what the child would see there. The drawings show helmets in several scenes, which can prompt a practical conversation about getting ready before play. A child can draw a destination at the end of an open path. The car pages offer another everyday vehicle, and the race car set suits a child who wants more speed and checkered flags on paper. Keep the coloring activity imaginative; the scenes are illustrations rather than road safety diagrams.

Most sheets show children riding kick scooters through parks or neighborhoods; the final two use a smiling scooter character. The large character offers a quick choice, while the flower-filled path and busy street scenes have many small regions. Color the helmet first, then find the wheels and handlebar.

Happy coloring!
