18 Whale Coloring Pages: Reefs and Narwhals Free printable PDF · color online
ForChildren who like whales and narwhalsFamilies choosing between quick and detailed ocean sheetsClassroom ocean-themed activities
These whale coloring pages split between broad ocean whales and playful narwhals. A whale passes a treasure chest, another swims over a small shipwreck, and a round narwhal leaves nearly the whole page open. Some reef scenes have many tiny fish, coral branches and bubbles, while the simpler narwhals suit a shorter coloring break. Choose the animal first, then decide how much of the water and seabed to color.

Ways to use these pages
Color from whale to reef
Finish the main animal, then choose only three nearby coral or fish shapes.
Compare the water scenes
Put a spouting whale beside a narwhal and point to the different shapes above their heads.
Invent an ocean story
Pair the plain narwhal with the mermaid rider and tell what happens between the two pictures.
Begin with the shape that leads the picture
The whales have long bodies, broad fins and curved tail flukes. Those large areas are a clear starting point even when the reef below is crowded. The whale beneath swirling water leaves pale open space across its back, while the one beside a treasure chest has small fish and coral all around it. Color the animal first and let the smaller sea life wait. A child can stop after the whale, or spend another session on the seabed. The ocean coloring pages offer other creatures if the reef becomes the favorite part.
Find a quick narwhal sheet
The round narwhal has a simple face, a few spots and a mostly white background. Two swimming narwhals also leave generous space around their bodies. Those are calmer choices than the whale pages filled with branching coral. The upright narwhal adds scattered shells, jellyfish and sea plants, and another turns below a turtle and octopus. Children can compare the long narrow tusk with the plumes of water drawn above some whales. These are playful illustrations, so use a real animal guide when factual anatomy matters.
Work down through a reef
The lower edge of several pages is full of small branching shapes. Try moving from whale to fish to coral, rather than filling the entire water area at once. The sunken-ship scene adds masts and rigging behind the animal; the rocky narwhal scene has plants in several layers. Those details make good longer projects with a finer pencil. Keep a light gap between an animal and nearby coral if their colors are similar. For another sea animal with a different body shape, try the dolphin coloring pages.
Keep fantasy separate from ocean observation
The final picture shows a mermaid riding a narwhal. It belongs to an invented story, unlike the more straightforward whale and fish scenes. Let children choose it for imagination rather than treating it as a wildlife scene. Pair a plain narwhal with the mermaid sheet and ask what changes between them. Or put a whale with a water spout beside one over the shipwreck and compare the backgrounds. Print just one ocean picture from its PDF, or use the book to offer all 18 selected drawings at a group table.
Happy coloring!
Start with the whale or narwhal, then color as much of the surrounding sea as the day allows.

Questions
Which whale page is easiest to start?
The round narwhal has one large figure and almost no setting. The two-narwhal sheet also leaves plenty of white space.
Are there detailed reef sheets?
Yes. Several whale scenes have branching coral and many small fish. The treasure chest and sunken ship add even more narrow areas.
Is the mermaid picture a real ocean scene?
No. The narwhal with a mermaid rider is a fantasy illustration included among the ocean-themed drawings.
Can I print the whole set?
Yes. Each of the 18 pictures has its own PDF, and the Whale Coloring Book gathers the selected sheets in one file.
