Ways to use these pages
Trace the path
On the rolling-hill sheet, follow the curving path from the bottom edge to the door before coloring the land beside it.
Change one sky
Print two similar cottages; color one sky bright and the other cloudy while keeping the roofs the same.
Near and far houses
Compare the large house beneath tall trees with a smaller house set back under a big sun; notice how much ground surrounds each.
Pick an open scene or a busy one
The small house under layered clouds and the simple house at the end of a road leave broad spaces around the buildings. They are good starting points if a child wants to color the roof, walls and sky in one sitting. The cottage beyond a curving path and the house with a long stairway have many lines in the foreground and hills; those take longer. Every drawing is a whole scene rather than one large object, so even the open pages need a little planning.
Follow the route to the house
In some pictures, a straight set of steps leads to the door. Elsewhere, a path bends through rolling ground or across a distant slope. Ask a child where the walk begins at the bottom of the picture and which side of the path they will color first. The cottage beyond a curving path uses narrow crossing bands that are easier with a pencil. The house beside a long winding path leaves larger fields on both sides for broad crayon strokes.
Look above the roof
The skies shift from layered clouds to round suns, rays and arching lines that look like rainbows in some scenes. A cottage beside a distant mountain has many sweeping slope lines, while the house under a large round sky shape keeps the background simpler. The large-arch cottage picture also shows strong sun rays, so preview it before choosing a specific weather activity. These are imaginary views, with no named location or season. A child can decide whether to make a bright morning, an evening sky or weather of their own.
Use pairs to notice changes
Print two houses with straight routes and two with curved ones. Color the roofs alike, then make the ground and sky different to see how the setting changes the mood. Compare a near house with a smaller one set farther back. For more rocky slopes, visit the mountain coloring pages; for planted paths and flowers, try the garden coloring pages. The matching book gathers all twenty variations if you want a repeated-house project over several days.
Happy coloring!
Pick a house with a simple route for a short session, or a mountain-and-path picture for longer coloring. The collection is useful for trying different skies over a familiar little building.
