May coloring pages gather friendly wildlife among leaves, grass, trees and water. Children can choose a bee, butterfly or caterpillar, then move to a duckling, deer or rabbit. Ways to use these pages

1

Leaf palette

Use the same two greens on the caterpillar and ladybug leaves, then choose different insect colors.

2

Water scene group

Arrange the duckling, fish and frog sheets together and point out the different water details.

3

May observation

Record a bird or insect seen outside on the back of one finished animal picture.

Look closely at wings and leaves

The insect pages have different shapes to notice. A bee hovers above cloud-like curves, a butterfly spreads patterned wings over flowers, and a caterpillar rests on a large leaf. The ladybug has dark spots and a leaf divided by veins. Children can color the large leaf sections first and return to the narrow lines afterward. The dragonfly has several outlined wings, giving it a more careful pace than its smiling face suggests. Try a pencil for the smaller wing panels and a crayon for the broad body or background.

Sort the water and woodland scenes

A duckling stands beside reeds and lily pads, three ducklings walk together, and a goose stands on grass. The fish swims through curved water lines, while the frog sits on a lily pad between pointed reeds. In the woods, a bear and antlered deer share the page with tree trunks and bushes. Ask children to group the pictures by what the setting shows, rather than assuming every animal has only one habitat. The duck pages can extend the water group with more poses after the May sheets are finished.

Turn animal shapes into a May record

The turtle portrait has broad shell panels and very little scenery; its existing name suggests grass, but the drawing lets children add that themselves. The fox, rabbit and squirrel already have plants around them. Choose one animal and add the date to the back, then sketch a leaf or bird seen nearby. The animals are stylized, so use a real observation for comparison rather than treating the drawings as identification guides. Keep that sheet in a month folder with the other month pictures. Children can revisit their spring colors when another month begins.

Happy coloring!

Choose a leaf insect, woodland animal or water scene, then add one detail from a walk outdoors. A date and a short observation on the back turn the finished picture into a small May record that the child can keep.

Questions

Are these May sheets calendars?

They are spring wildlife pictures rather than calendars. Add May and a date on the back if you want a month keepsake.

Which May picture has a plain background?

The turtle is mainly a single animal portrait with open space around it. Children can draw grass or another setting themselves.

Which animals appear near water?

The duckling, fish and frog have visible water or pond details. Another page shows a goose standing on grass.
