20 Sun Coloring Pages: Beach Days and Garden Smiles Free printable PDF · color online

ForChildren who like smiling sun charactersFamilies planning a summer activityGroups comparing quick and detailed scenes

These sun coloring pages turn the bright circle in the sky into a character. One sun rises through clouds; another wears sunglasses beneath a beach umbrella. Elsewhere, a sun meets an owl, shines on flowers or peers over a watermelon slice. The watermelon and sandcastle are quick picks, while the fruit basket and busy gardens invite slower coloring.

Ways to use these pages

1

Change the time of day

Color two sun scenes with a pale morning sky and a warm evening sky.

2

Make a beach palette

Pick one color each for rays, water and sand before starting a shore picture.

3

Count the garden details

Find flowers, butterflies and bees before coloring the fuller garden scene.

Begin with a broad sunny shape

The sun peeking over a watermelon slice has wide rays, a large face and one big fruit shape. The sandcastle picture also keeps the background quiet, with a bucket and spade beside the main scene. Both work when there is time for just one sheet. Try coloring the face first and choosing a different yellow or orange for every other ray. The sun watching a turtle has another roomy composition, but the shell adds a few smaller sections. If your child wants an even more open sky subject, the weather coloring pages give them clouds and other familiar outdoor shapes to compare.

Follow the sun to the shore

Several drawings move from the sky to beach level. A sunglass-wearing sun stands below an umbrella and palms; another rises behind rolling waves and three shells. The surfboard page puts long wave bands across the foreground. These are Medium rather than Easy because the waves, fronds or accessories ask for a little more planning. Give the sand one color and the water another, then decide whether each crest stays white. In the beach-ball picture, children can make alternating ball panels while keeping the surrounding palms separate. The beach coloring pages offer more shore scenes after these sun portraits.

Spend more time in the garden

A kite flies above rows of flowers and butterflies, while another sun holds an ice cream cone beside grass and blooms. The basket picture is the most crowded picnic choice: fruit, flowers and small leaves surround the central sun. A different sheet fills the lower half with smiling flowers and butterflies. Those smaller repeated shapes make the garden and fruit-basket pages Detailed. Color one plant at a time, or give each flower a separate color before filling the sky. For a related plant activity, try the flower coloring pages and compare their petals with the sun's pointed rays.

Tell a small story with the pictures

The owl sits in a tree as the sun looks on. Birds cross the ocean on another sheet, and a busier treetop picture puts small birds among branching leaves. Ask a child what time of day each scene might show and let the colors answer: pale yellow for morning, deep orange for evening or an invented purple sky. The tree-bird drawing needs a narrower pencil for leaves and feathers; the surfboard or watermelon is better for a shorter session. Print two contrasting sheets and place them side by side as a simple morning-and-evening story.

Happy coloring!

Choose a broad sun and a fuller garden scene, then see how the same face changes with the setting and color choices.
