✦ Eruptions under Fantasy Skies

12 Volcano Coloring Pages with Lava and Fantasy Skies Free printable PDF · color online

ForAges 6–12Children who like fantasy mountains and spaceHome and group coloring

These 12 volcano coloring pages all show a mountain erupting beneath an imaginative sky. Lava runs down the slopes while planets, stars and small flying saucers hover above; these are story pictures, not science diagrams. The scenes share a bold outline style, but their plumes, lava rivers and mountain frames give children different shapes to work through.

Ways to use these pages

1

Trace a lava route

Follow one lava stream with a finger from the crater to the bottom before coloring it.

2

Invent a planet name

Name the pretend world where the volcano and flying saucer appear together.

3

Swap sky colors

Color two eruptions with the same lava colors but different fantasy skies.

Find where the eruption begins

Most pictures have an open crater near the middle. Follow one lava channel from that opening to the foot of the mountain before choosing a crayon. Some eruptions rise as cloudlike plumes; others spray in long arcs. The round-framed scenes make the mountain feel close, while distant peaks and small trees give a wider setting. A child can color the main mountain first and return to the sky later. For more scenery without an eruption, visit nature coloring pages.

Treat the sky as make-believe

Little saucers and ringed worlds appear above every volcano in this set. They are fantasy elements, so use them for storytelling rather than as a lesson about Earth's sky or real volcanic activity. Ask a child whether the picture might be on another planet or in an invented comic. The page with lightning adds another dramatic shape, and the one with a lava river can become a route for an imagined spacecraft. The spaceship collection offers more vehicles for that story.

Separate warm lava from cool rock

Red, orange and yellow can help the spray stand apart from dark rock, but there is room to invent a purple mountain or green sky. On the busier pictures, choose one color for the longest lava streams before filling the many droplets. The flying saucers, planets and stars give a child a second palette to try. For a group table, print two different eruptions and compare how the same colors change each scene's mood.

Choose a scene by the amount of detail

The tall mountain under ringed planets and the volcano inside a rounded frame have more open slopes. The high eruption and close view with multiple flying objects carry many little shapes and may take longer. None of these is a blank, single-shape volcano worksheet. If a child wants a shorter activity, color only the crater and one lava path, then finish the stars another day. More imaginary worlds appear in the playful planet pictures.

Happy coloring!

Choose a wide mountain for a shorter session or a crowded eruption when a child wants a longer fantasy scene. The book keeps all twelve together.

Questions

Are these realistic volcano diagrams?

No. Every selected scene includes planets or little spacecraft, so the pages are fantasy volcano art rather than scientific diagrams.

Why are there flying saucers above the eruptions?

They are part of the artwork's imaginary space setting and can be used as prompts for a made-up story.

Can I print all twelve at once?

Yes. The matching coloring book combines the twelve individual pictures into one PDF.

Can the same sheets be colored online?
